Music Mondays: “Anchor” by Mindy Gledhill

This week’s Music Mondays will feature Mindy Gledhill!

Mindy Gledhill is a singer-songwriter from California and is most known for her collaborations with DJ Kaskade. Much of her popularity developed on Youtube and bloggers throughout the years. She first debuted in 2004 under Lumen Records, but then soon dropped her label in pursuit of a more indie sound. Throughout the past years, she has released 5 albums and 2 singles.

Gledhill has featured as a guest vocalist on Kaskade’s song “Eyes” from his first album, which was a #1 hit on the Billboard Dance Airplay and #17 on Billboard 200. Not only was her voice featured in the song but she was also featured in the music video. Gledhill was also featured in a few songs in Kasakade’s 2010 album Dynasty – which also reached quite high on the Billboard charts.

This specific song was the title song for her album Anchor that was her 3rd released album. The album was released in 2010 both in the U.S. and in Korea, where it became quite popular on the music charts.

This song is categorized as piano ballad with a beautiful mix of vocal layering. In contrast to much of today’s music, the simplicity of the piano as the instrumental stand alone is refreshing and relaxing to the ear. Granted, this song would require you to stop, relax and listen in order to really appreciate it, but wouldn’t a beautiful combination of vocals and piano give you a breather in the ever constant busy flow of life?

Though this song is definitely mainstream and doesn’t have the bass and beats, it certainly is a song that is perfect for giving your ears and your soul a breather from the heaviness of today’s music.
